Italy's participation contributed to the fact that the European Council greenlighted negotiations with Croatia as well as to the future accession of Bulgaria and Romania, a daily cited Berlusconi as saying.
Berlusconi also highlighted the important role of the Italian delegation in the adoption of the date for the start of EU entry talks with Turkey.
The four countries always had Italy's support and now we are confident that they will be grateful to us, the Italian PM said and added that he held several separate meetings with Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan during the summit in Brussels.
