"Although Judaism advocates a newly created life, it does not necessarily advocate banning abortion because there are a number of reasons of a physical and psychological nature when abortion is considered justified," reads a statement signed by the chief rabbi in Croatia, Kotel Da-Don, and the head of the Zagreb Jewish Municipality and the coordinating body of Jewish municipalities, Ognjen Kraus.
Senior representatives of religious communities in Croatia on Thursday held a meeting at which they adopted a joint declaration stating that life is an unquestionable value and advocating protection for any form of human life from conception to death.
Commenting on media reports saying that religious communities, including the Jewish community, share the same position on abortion, the Jewish Municipality said that representatives of the Jewish community did not take part in talks with representatives of other religious communities on this topic.
