Eight years ago about 100,000 people gathered in Ban Jelacic Square to protest against a decision of the then Council for radio and television stations which refused to extend the concession to 'Radio 101' station in Zagreb, which was perceived at the time as the vociferous promoter of the stands of the then opposition.
Present at last evening's gathering in the theatre was also the incumbent Croatian President Stjepan Mesic who recalled the 'Ban Jelacic Square' gathering. Mesic said that "people responded in such way when values of civil societies were threatened".
He voiced hope that something like that would never again happen, and in case it might happen "citizens will be again there".
