"The Foreign Ministry has obtained no information from its diplomatic contacts on the existence of such a document and therefore cannot comment on media reports," ministry spokesman Dobroslav Silobrcic told Hina.
Globus weekly reported in its last issue that the authorities in Washington last week sent a non-paper to all EU members requesting that they postpone the start of Croatia-EU entry talks. The weekly quoted diplomatic circles in Zagreb and Brussels as saying that the US authorities back their request with the claim that Zagreb is not investing enough efforts to arrest and extradite Gotovina and therefore propose that the EU postpone the talks until the Croatian government hands him over.
Asked whether there was such a document and what it contained, officials at the US Embassy in Zagreb said that they never commented on diplomatic exchanges with other governments.
Silobrcic told Hina that diplomatic relations between Croatia and the US were good and stable.
"The Foreign Ministry, that is, the government of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, has always believed that Croatia's admission to the EU is complementary with its good relations with the US and there is no misunderstanding whatsoever in that regard," Silobrcic said.
