"Cimpl has been detained for 48 hours. The necessary proceedings and check-ups are being conducted on the order and with the participation of the prosecution. We are collecting information which we believe is important for shedding light on the case," officials at the Belgrade District Prosecutor's Office said.
Serbian Interior Minister Dragan Jocic said at a special news conference on Wednesday that no attempt had been made on Tadic's life, but that he was involved in a "traffic violation".
The US Embassy in Belgrade yesterday informed the Serbian interior ministry that the Audi which collided with one of the vehicles from Tadic's motorcade in Belgrade was driven by its security employee Miroslav Cimpl, a citizen of Serbia and Montenegro. Minister Jocic said that the driver was upset by the way the motorcade was driving as "he had never seen such driving", but got scared when he saw rotating lights and when the last vehicle from the motorcade rammed into his car.
The US Embassy yesterday expressed regret at the incident.
