Two-day ministerial conference on Danube convention ends in Vienna

ViennaVIENNA, Dec 14 (Hina) - A two-day ministerial conference on the DanubeRiver Protection Convention (DRPC), hosted by the InternationalCommission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), ended inVienna on Tuesday with a declaration reaffirming the politicalobligation of countries in the Danube basin to improve cooperation inprotecting the river's resources.
VIENNA, Dec 14 (Hina) - A two-day ministerial conference on the Danube River Protection Convention (DRPC), hosted by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), ended in Vienna on Tuesday with a declaration reaffirming the political obligation of countries in the Danube basin to improve cooperation in protecting the river's resources.

The declaration contains priorities, goals and main actions to be undertaken over the next 10 years and represents a basis for the development of strategies for necessary joint actions.

Countries in the Danube region agreed to work towards strengthening cross-border cooperation to ensure the sustainable development and integral management of water resources in the Danube River basin.

The conference was attended by ministers and senior political representatives in charge of water management from 13 countries -- Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine -- and representatives of the European Commission.

The Croatian delegation was headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Petar Cobankovic, and State Secretary Bozo Galic.
