ZAGREB, Dec 12 (Hina) - Independent presidential candidate Slaven Letica, who has the support of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), submitted his presidential candidacy and submitted slightly more than 18,000 signatures supporting his candidacy to the State Election Commission (DIP).

Letica arrived at the Commission in the company of senior HSP members.

"So far I am the only candidate to have offered a presidential programme, and what I will do between 2005 and 2010 will be exclusively in the interest of ordinary Croatian citizens," Letica said when asked what he would do if he won the elections.

Letica believes that over the past month the citizens' attention had been diverted to issues which had no connection with their everyday problems and that a corruption ring had been formed to push all scandals under the rug.

Commenting on the outcome of the elections, he said that the race would be undecided until the very end.

Asked to comment on a reported incident at Zagreb's Municipal Court involving him and presidential candidate Stjepan Mesic, Letica said that Mesic did not threaten him but that the situation was very unpleasant. "It was very unpleasant to see Mesic launch a verbal attack on me instead of shaking hands with me."

He added that he had reported the incident to the DIP and that there were more witnesses to the incident.

Mesic today denied having verbally attacked and insulted Letica.
