Miksic supported his candidacy with the signatures of more than 10,000 voters.
Explaining why he should be elected president, Miksic said that he would not be a decorative president but a president advocating a strong economy, better living standards and dignity of Croatian citizens.
Miksic, who emigrated to the United States in 1974 and became a successful businessman, appeared on the Croatian political scene at the last parliamentary elections.
About a dozen other presidential candidates are expected to submit their candidacies by 00:00 hours on December 13.
The State Election Commission then has 48 hours to publish the list of presidential candidates in all dailies and on Croatian Television.
The official election campaign will last from December 16 to 31.
