ZAGREB, Dec 12 (Hina) - Presidential candidate and incumbent President Stjepan Mesic took over in his election headquarters on Sunday lists with citizens' signatures supporting his presidential candidacy.

Mesic said that well over the necessary 10,000 signatures had been collected, but he would not comment on the exact figure saying that the signatures had yet to be counted.

He added that the lists would be submitted to the State Election Commission on Monday.

Asked to comment on what some media reported was an incident between him and presidential candidate Slaven Letica at Zagreb's Municipal Court on Friday as they were submitting statements about the acceptance of candidacy, Mesic said he did not consider it an insult to wish Letica good day.

Giving his version of the incident, Mesic said that Letica forcibly entered the office at the Municipal Court "and pushed the clerk away from the desk where I was authenticating my signature".

"I offered him to sit and he offered me his promotional materials, to which I said that I don't have such expensive materials and that people can write and say about me whatever they want, but they must not lie. Letica asked me 'Am I lying?', to which I replied that I didn't know, but I can't help it if people recognise themselves... ," Mesic said.

Some media yesterday quoted Letica as saying that Mesic attacked him verbally, saying that he (Letica) had to stop lying and that he (Mesic) had no money to print programmes like Letica's "Presidential catechism".
