Sanader was speaking in the northern town of Bjelovar at an HDZ's assembly for constituency no. 2.
He said he expected everyone to agree also on the role of Croatia's first president, the late Franjo Tudjman, who he said took Croatia into independence.
HDZ presidential candidate Jadranka Kosor reproached incumbent President Stjepan Mesic for not visiting Tudjman's grave today, on the fifth anniversary of his death.
Speaking of her campaign, she said its backbone would be the concept that man was above politics.
Kosor said she would continue to fight for every citizen's dignity and rights, notably war veterans and their families, and promote women's rights to participate in politics and to work.
