I have received his resignation and sent it to the Sabor Secretary as the resignation should be offered to the Sabor Speaker, given that it is the Sabor which appoints and dismisses chairpersons and council members, Jarnjak told reporters in the parliament.
He added that the national security committee would discuss the latest developments and decide on further moves.
Jarnjak said that in the letter in which he tendered his resignation, Cvrtila said he was satisfied with the cooperation with the committee and that no pressure had been exerted on him.
Jarnjak added that he also had cooperated well with Cvrtila and the council.
Cvrtila on Tuesday tendered his irrevocable resignation stating that the council was losing credibility because most of its members refused to discuss new information in the case of reporter Helena Puljiz and investigate if conditions had been met to replace Counterintelligence Agency (POA) chief Josko Podbevsek.
Jarnjak told reporters that four committee members from the opposition ranks today asked officially for an urgent meeting of the committee over speculation that the President of the Republic, Stjepan Mesic, and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader had received two different reports from the Office of the National Security Council on the work of the POA.
Jarnjak said he was going to convene the session but he still did not know its exact time and date, explaining that some time was required to prepare the meeting and establish whether the subject of the session would be within the authority of the Committee.
Jarnjak said he had not received any confirmation of the information that the POA head Podbevsek had dismissed his deputy, Ante Glavan, and added that the committee could discuss only the appointment and dismissal of security services' heads while other personnel-related issues were within the scope of activities of the heads.
