VUKOVAR, Dec 2 (Hina) - The Croatian Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Ivanka Savic of Vukovar as unfounded and upheld the sentence of the Vukovar County Court, which sentenced her in January to four years and six months in prison for war crimes against civilians, the Vukovar court said on Thursday.

Savic, aged 78, is charged with informing on Croats and other non-Serbs detained in a warehouse in the eastern town of Vukovar from October 1991 to April 1992. The indictment says that she was actively involved in their intimidation and maltreatment, and that she took pieces of furniture and valuables from Croats for herself.

The Osijek County Court initially sentenced Savic in absence in 1994 to eight years' imprisonment. During a retrial at the Vukovar County Court this year, the County Prosecutor demanded that the Trial Chamber uphold the sentence handed down by the Osijek court, but the request was rejected by the Supreme Court.
