Sources at the Constitutional Court told Hina the complaint of one defendant's attorney was received. They added, however, that the deadline expired today and that the other complaints might have been mailed at the weekend or today, in keeping with the deadline, and that they might reach the court by the end of the week.
The attorneys said they expected the Constitutional Court to accept their complaints because the basic terms for setting detention were not met.
They said the "grave circumstances of the crimes" their clients were accused of, which were cited as the reason for ordering detention, were not contained in the prosecution's file, and that more than 12 years had passed since the crimes were committed.
Three of the eight military police accused of crimes against inmates at Split's Lora military prison in 1992 have been in detention since October 11, while arrest warrants were issued for the other five on October 26. They were acquitted at the first trial at the Split County Court but the Supreme Court ordered a retrial before a new panel of judges.
