The tenth summit of Francophone countries took place in Ouagadougou, the capital of the African country of Burkina Faso on 26-27 November.
Croatia, which was represented at this summit by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's special envoy, Croatian Ambassador to Paris, Bozidar Gagro, was officially admitted to the group.
On that occasion, Ambassador Gagro voiced hope that Croatia's membership would open new prospects of cooperation with many Francophone countries and cultures all over the world.
"The Organisation of Francophone Countries is the proof that cooperation is possible among the most different countries, even sometimes despite the burden of the history," the Croatian representative said at the summit.
This 51-member organisation is established in Paris in 1973. It has also ten members-observers.
Croatia forwarded its membership application on 4 February this year.
