KNIN, Nov 21 (Hina) - The presidential candidate of the nonparliamentary Croatian Bloc (HB) party, Ivic Pasalic, on Saturday organised a rally in the southern town of Knin to present his presidential platform.

Pasalic reiterated that his policy would be to be the helm of a resolute Croatia which would follow the ideas of the first President Franjo Tudjman.

Accusing the current structures of authorities of treason and being servile, Pasalic said that the key problem of the Croatian political life since the country gained independence had been interference of elements of UDBA (the former socialist Federal Yugoslavia's intelligence agency) and Communists in all segments of the authorities ranging from the Office of the President, the government to big companies and media.

"They would like to push us again into a new Balkan association, for the interests of their masters," Pasalic said in front on the sports hall in Knin.

Pasalic said in case he became the new Croatian President he would amnesty retired General Norac (who, under a final ruling, is serving 12-year-prison term for war crimes), and pass a decree on discontinuation of the prosecution of runaway general Ante Gotovina.

The HB chief perceives the "trial of General Gotovina as the trial of the entire Croatia", and advocates a referendum on the change of the law regulating cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal.

Pasalic said that "Europe needs Croatia as cheap and valuable real estate" and therefore he is against the "speedy careering towards the European Union."

He also does not think that Croatia needs membership in NATO as "times have changed and in the fight against international terrorism the strong national security is of key importance" rather than "sending one's own boys to Afghanistan and Iraq".
