CAVTAT, Nov 23 (Hina) - The second regional economic forum for Southeast Europe, which started in the southern Croatian Adriatic resort town of Cavtat on Tuesday is an opportunity to advance cooperation among countries in the region, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic told reporters after the morning part of the forum entitled "Competitors and partners on the path to the European Union".

Mesic told reporters that the Cavtat forum has its place in Europe and that this was the right place for the countries of the region to advance their cooperation, notably in the economy.

Mesic said the Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was good because all citizens who were subpoenaed as witnesses and all indictees and suspects showed up in court and only General Ante Gotovina was at large.

"Our services took all measures to locate general Gotovina, but did not manage to discover his whereabouts and I claim that he is not in Croatia," Mesic said and added he was confident that Croatia was the last country where Gotovina would hide given that police forces from all over the world were looking for him and especially the Croatian police.

Speaking about the activities of the Croatian-Bosnian Inter-State Council, Mesic said the council had advanced the two countries relations, but added that there were several more issues that needed to be solved, including the Ploce Port issue.

Commenting on the participation of Croatian soldiers in the war in Bosnia, Mesic reiterated that the decision of parliament and the head of state was necessary for the Croatian army to cross the state border.

"Parliament has never made such a decision and the president has never made it public, therefore Croatia's army has never officially participated in the war in Bosnia, and some other institutions need to establish whether groups and individuals took part in the war,"Mesic said.
