Without revealing the identity of the suspect, the police reported that it acted on an anonymous tip against "a responsible person from a civil association promoting human rights and democracy" due to suspicion of abuse of office and powers, forgery of official documents and abuse of office in business dealings.
A source close to the prosecution and police, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the person in question was Ljubomir Cucic who last July was relieved of duty as secretary general of the European Movement and president of the European House Zagreb after his wife accused him of physical and mental abuse.
The European Movement today stated that after Cucic was relieved of duty, an auditing company discovered some irregularities in the association's operation and that its findings were forwarded to competent state bodies.
