The Croatian Interior Ministry's department for personnel affairs has checked the legal foundations for recent transfers and appointments in the Zadar Police, and established that a mistake was made when it was decided that Svemir Vrsaljko be appointed to a new duty, as he did not have the qualifications required for the new post, reads a press release signed by ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun on Thursday.
The decision on Vrsaljko's transfer to the said department has been revoked, as has also been the transfer of the three other police officers in the Zadar police which were connected with Vrsaljko's new appointment. The three officers will remain in the posts they had held before the transfer.
Earlier on Thursday, the association of special police officers who served during the 1991-1995 Homeland Defence War said it was appalled and outraged by Vrasljko's transfer and by other personnel changes in the Zadar police.
The association's leader, Zeljko Sacic, told a news conference in Zagreb this morning that legal, procedural and immoral injustice was inflicted on Vrsaljko, who was a brave defender and the commander of a special police unit during the war.
