ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - A Croatian-Russian economic forum took place in Zagreb on Thursday as part of a two-day visit of a delegation of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation.

The forum, organised by the Croatian Chamber of the Economy and the City of Zagreb, was attended by Russian and Croatian business people who presented their business projects.

Projects were also presented by representatives of the City of Zagreb, the Croatian Tourism Board, the Croatian Chamber of the Economy, the Croatian Privatisation Fund, and the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Russian delegation was led by the authorised representative of the Russian President for the Central Federal District, Georgy Sergeyevich Poltavchenko, and included the Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, and mayors of towns from the Central Federal District.

At the end of the meeting, Zagreb Mayor Vlasta Pavic and Poltavchenko signed an agreement on cooperation between the Central Federal District and the City of Zagreb.

According to figures from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Croatian exports to Russia amounted to 89 million US dollars in the first nine months of this year, which was a 74 per cent increase from the same period last year. On the other hand, imports totalled 830 million US dollars, which was 70.6 per cent more than in the same period in 2003.

Croatia mainly imports petroleum, petroleum gases, gas, petroleum oils and similar products, which account for nearly 90 per cent of imports from Russia, and exports telecommunications equipment and pharmaceutical products.

Croatian exports to Russia account for 1.5 per cent of the country's overall exports while imports account for 6.9 per cent.
