ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament on Wednesday adopted the 2005 national budget with 79 votes of the ruling majority, while 17 opposition MPs voted against.

According to the budget, expenditure is expected to amount to some 91 billion kuna, revenue to 86.7 billion, and the national deficit to account for 3.7 percent of GDP.

The Pensioners' Party (HSU) voted for the budget despite previous announcements that it would abstain unless another billion kuna was secured for the adjustment of pensions.

This party agreed with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader today to prepare a new pension scheme reform by March.

Three MPs of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) -- Branimir Glavas, Ivan Drmic, and Vladimir Sisljagic -- who announced they would abstain from the vote because the Government did not consider their amendments in which they asked for 280 million kuna for Osijek-Baranja County, voted for the budget.

All opposition MPs who were present voted against.

Both the Government and the parliamentary majority turned down all 325 amendments moved by MPs in which they asked for an additional 4.5 billion kuna.

The voting lasted 11 hours.

Parliament also endorsed the law on the execution of the 2005 national budget, and adopted financial plans for the Croatian Roads and Croatian Highways companies, as well as for the Croatian Privatisation Fund.

Also today, Parliament added another item to the agenda of the current session -- MPs will decide whether to set up a commission of enquiry to look into contracts between the state and companies partially or fully owned by state officials.

Parliament resumes the 11th session tomorrow with a debate on reports on the performance of Croatian Radio and Television's Directorate and Programmes Council.

MPs are also expected to consider a proposal by three opposition parties -- the Social Democrats (SDP), the People's Party (HNS) and the Peasant Party (HSS) -- to give a vote of no confidence in Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul, whom they accuse of conflict of interest.

The opposition needs 77 votes for the no-confidence vote.
