Sanader told the press the talks addressed Croatia-Holy See relations and Croatia's European Union integration process. "I told... Cardinal Sodano that we are awaiting the European Council's decision on the start of EU entry negotiations. The Holy See has a very strong diplomacy and I think they can lobby for us."
Sodano told the press he hoped Croatia would join the EU as soon as possible.
"There are some red tape difficulties, but I believe they will be eliminated soon. Croatia's relations with the Holy See are good, as confirmed by the fact that the Pope visited Croatia three times."
Sodano visited Split to bless and open the renovated Bishops Palace, which will house the Archdiocese Ordinariate. The palace was built 100 years ago.
In attendance were Sanader, Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, Education Minister Dragan Primorac, Zagreb Archbishop Cardinal Josip Bozanic, and Sarajevo Archbishop Cardinal Vinko Puljic.
