ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - A step forward has been made in Croatian legislation giving gays certain rights but this is far below the level in many developed countries, heard a round-table debate on the protection of sexual minorities' human rights in Zagreb on Friday.

The aim of the debate, organised by Iskorak and Kontra, organisations representing homosexuals and lesbians, is to incite a debate in society about the best legal solutions for the protection of said groups' human rights.

The guest of the debate was Robert Wintermute, a London Royal College expert in anti-discriminatory legislation and the legal aspects of same-sex partnership.

He said homosexuality was decriminalised in Croatia only in 1977, much later than in numerous developed countries, while discrimination in the workplace became a crime only last year.
