Sanader said that in about ten days, namely at the end of November, the government would call the presidential elections.
"What kind of a democracy would this be if the strongest party wouldn't have its candidate -- that would be the defeat of democracy," Sanader said in a response to a question posed by President Stjepan Mesic's advisor who wondered whether it was democratic for the HDZ to nominate its presidential candidate given that both the prime minister and the parliament president came from the ranks of the HDZ.
Sanader said that Kosor's political and social activities could be an example to everybody. "If she knows how to take care of the needy she will know how to take care of everybody else," Sanader said and added that Kosor was a politician with modern views who will most definitely get a large support from the voters.
Sanader expressed satisfaction with the government's work over the last year, primarily because it managed to preserve macroeconomic stability.
Kosor said she was ready for all challenges in the presidential race and expressed conviction she would win a large number of votes. "If I win, I most definitely will not be the decoration of the presidential residence," Kosor said.
