SARAJEVO, Nov 15 (Hina) - Bosnian Serb police last night arrested eight Bosnian Serbs charged with war crimes by the cantonal prosecutor in Sarajevo, police and judicial sources in Sarajevo and Banja Luka said on Monday.

The eight persons, accused of committing crimes in eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina during the 1990s war, have been handed over to the Sarajevo cantonal prosecutor's office, spokesman Oleg Cavka said.

He added they were indicted in 1999 but declined to identify them, saying their identities were being checked.

According to police forces, five were arrested in the Lukavica and Pale areas, and three in Foca. The media have said Pale wartime police commander Jovan Skobo is among them.

The others arrested, according to the media, are Goran Vasic, Veselin Cancar, Dragoja Radanovic, Svetko Novakovic, Momir Glisic, Zeljko Mitrovic, and Momir Skakavac.

Indictments for war crimes issued by local prosecutors in Bosnia must be verified by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, and only with its approval may trials be held at national courts.
