ZAGREB, Nov 2 (Hina) - The minister of environmental protection, zoning and construction, Marina Matulovic-Dropulic, has appointed a 25-member commission which will evaluate the impact of the Druzba Adria oil pipeline project on the environment, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

The project envisages the transport of oil from Russia to a Croatian seaport, across six countries.

The commission will decide if a study on the project's impact on the environment is integral and valid from an expert point of view, after which the study will be made available to the public for a period of up to three weeks.

The commission may order the holding of a public debate on the study while it is available to the public.

The study consists of some 1,500 pages. Some of its data are state secrets and will not be publicly available, primarily data referring to installations.

An agreement on Croatia's involvement in the Druzba Adria project was signed by the former Government in 2001.

Green activists oppose the project, saying it would disturb the Adriatic's ecosystem.
