ZAGREB/CAPLJINA, Oct 31 (Hina) - Damir Mikulic, the Croatian truck driver who was arrested by US forces in Iraq, does not speak well any foreign language, which hampers his communication in prison, Mikulic's uncle, who lives in Zagreb and at whose address Mikulic was registered, said on Sunday.

"Damir speaks German very poorly," Stanko Mikulic told Hina. Damir Mikulic was arrested by US forces on suspicion of espionage and placed in detention at the U.S.-run Camp Bucca military base.

Mikulic said that the Office of the Croatian President had joined in efforts to shed light on the case, and added that he had been in contact with the Foreign Ministry and the US Embassy in Zagreb for a week.

According to him, his nephew had called from Iraq every five or six days. "However, when he failed to call for 25 days, I called his employer Filip Radeljic, who told me that there were some problems with Damir, but that they weren't serious," Mikulic said.

Damir's father Marko, who lives in Capljina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, said he received information about his son only from the media.
