BELGRADE, Oct 19 (Hina) - The Serbian government will not arrest ICTY indictees, particularly not four military and police generals, and there are only two options in this case -- their voluntary surrender or their trial in the country, Serbian Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic told Belgrade-based Blic daily on Tuesday.

"The former government decided that their arrest would jeopardise the security of the country. Until this decision is revoked at one of the sessions of this government, nobody can arrest them," Stojkovic said and expressed hope the four generals would voluntarily surrender.

Chief war crimes prosecutor Carla del Ponte, who has already been informed about the decision, will notify the UN Security Council about it at the end of November, Stojkovic told the daily.

Of the four generals indicted for war crimes in Kosovo in 1999, only general Sreten Lukic has collected his ICTY indictment. The District Court has ordered the Serbian Interior Ministry to issue a warrant for the arrest of the other three generals -- Nebojsa Pavkovic, Vladimir Lazarevic and Vlastimir Djordjevic.
