ZAGREB, Oct 29 (Hina) - Closing information sources is one of the reasons why Croatia was ranked 54th among 167 countries on the Reporters Without Borders press freedom index, it was said at the Days of Media Legislation held in Frankfurt.

Dietrich Schlegel of the international organisation Reporters Without Borders hailed the Croatian government's regulation binding it to issue, every January, a list of public authorities which must respect the law on the right to information and which must have a public relations officer. He stressed, however, that the government was not doing this on a regular basis. He said one of the reasons Croatia was ranked 54th was because it had closed some information sources.

The Frankfurt meeting, held on October 22 and 23, pooled journalists, media and legal experts, representatives of national and international institutions and government officials and parliamentary deputies from 11 countries, including representatives of the Croatian Journalists' Association.
