ZAGREB, Oct 20 (Hina) - The Croatian government decided on Wednesday to declassify the transcripts of meetings held between the late president Franjo Tudjman and the military leadership in 1995, which are requested by defence counsel for Croatian army generals indicted by the Hague war crimes tribunal.

The meetings were held in Tudjman's summer residence on the northern Adriatic archipelago of Brijuni on July 17 and July 31,1995, just days before the Croatian army launched a major operation code-named Storm to retake Serb-occupied territories in Croatia. The minutes of the meetings were stored in a Justice Ministry safe.

The decision to declassify the transcripts was reached by the government on Wednesday afternoon, at a session held by telephone.

The government also appointed a commission to take over records and documents made while Tudjman was President of the Republic, examine them and to hand them over to the Croatian State Archives.

Justice Ministry State Secretary Snjezana Bagic was appointed chair of the commission, while Presidential Chief of Staff Hrvoje Cvitanovic, Assistant Justice Minister Jaksa Muljacic, Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Dragan Novosel, and State Archives Director Stjepan Cosic were appointed members.
