After meeting representatives of the Council for National Minorities, Sanader said that there were problems and omissions on the ground, but "this cannot overshadow the Government's commitment to enforcing the Constitutional Law on National Minorities' Rights, and the implementation of the agreement which the Government signed not only with the Serb but also with other national minorities".
"You can rest assured, property restitution will be completed," Sanader said answering reporters' questions about last week's statement by ethnic Serb representative Milorad Pupovac that the policy of ethnic cleansing was continuing by other means including the purchase of (Serb) property.
Sanader said that the integration of all citizens, particularly national minorities' members and the preservation of their identity, "is the Government's historic task".
The PM said he would discuss the matter with his Serbian counterpart Vojislav Kostunica on the margins of the eighth meeting of the European People's Party and the European Democrats with the Greek Orthodox Church, in Thessaloniki on Thursday.
Sanader thanked minorities for their support to Croatia on its path towards the European Union, and reiterated that he would insist on amending the Constitution so as to re-include Bosniaks as a national minority.
Pupovac agreed with Sanader that the return of refugees and property restitution were not issues of political nature, adding that he supported efforts of the Council and the government, as well as Sanader's affirmative policy towards minorities. Concrete problems will be discussed at next week's meeting between ethnic Serb representatives and the PM, Pupovac added.
Council chairman Aleksandar Tolnauer told reporters that participants in today's meeting agreed in detail on models for the removal of problems in the implementation of the said constitutional law.
