Mercep told a news conference he had contacts with the ICTY on several occasions, and described those contacts as being fair.
"There are no proceedings staged against me, and media headlines that I am responsible for some crimes were not true, and I was not summonsed for trials for war crimes in Pakracka Poljana or Gospic not even as a witness, Mercep said.
Jutarnji List daily wrote on Saturday that ICTY had confirmed the indictment against Mercep for crimes in Pakracka Poljana and Vukovar and added that a decision was made that the case be referred to the Croatian judiciary.
On the same day, spokeswoman for the chief war crimes prosecutor Florence Hartmann told Croatian Television that there was no indictment against Mercep.
Mercep announced he would sue the daily for publishing untruths.
