This was said at the end of a two-day international conference called "EU Market Competition Policy and Its Effects on Croatia", which was held in Zagreb on Wednesday and Thursday.
A university professor from Liege, Damien Gerardin, said the issue of state subsidies in the light of protection of market competition was the main problem which the countries that joined the EU this year had to tackle. All those countries have established special institutions to supervise the granting of state subsidies.
The Zagreb conference was organised by the competent Croatian agency and the Danish Europe Institute within a CARDS project for the development of a market competition policy in Croatia in accordance with European standards and practice.
