Montenegrin media warned recently that the military authorities were withdrawing weapons and military hardware from Montenegro "according to the well-known scenario that was used last decade during the break-up of the former federation".
According to a statement from Marovic's office, he ordered an investigation to find out "on the basis of which decision the Main Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia and Montenegro made a report on the dissolution of units and the withdrawal of surplus assets from use."
The Main Staff said that "a portion of the military assets have been withdrawn from the territory of Montenegro for storage purposes and a smaller portion for repair purposes."
General Blagoje Grahovac, military adviser to the chairman of the Montenegrin Parliament, described Marovic's request as "belated and politically motivated".
Grahovac said that "the amount of the movable assets that have been transferred out of Montenegro is much larger than that mentioned in the media." He added that Montenegrin authorities should determine the value of the assets and that they should be the subject of future succession talks.
