ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - Croatian Judges Association (UHS) president Vladimir Gredelj has refused to take part in the first international court management conference taking place in Ljubljana on September 26-28 due to top Slovene officials' statements about a recent incident on the Croatian-Slovene border, UHS said in a press release on Friday.

Gredelj has informed the presidents of the Slovene Judges Society about his decision. In a letter to his Slovene counterpart Ales Zalar, Gredelj said it was difficult to justify and understand what he said were top Slovene officials' non-European insults, threats and pressure at the expense of Croatia and its future.

Gredelj said his decision was not a sign of protest but of the need to protect his own dignity and that of his people, adding he would feel unwelcome if he were to attend a conference on Slovene soil.

The incident mentioned above took place on Wednesday, when 12 Slovene nationals, including several senior officials of the Slovene People's Party, entered Croatia by avoiding border control. This elicited numerous political reactions in both Slovenia and Croatia, as well as concern in the European Commission.
