LJUBLJANA, Sept 2 (Hina) - Around 70 percent of Slovene voters willtake part in the fourth regular parliamentary elections in thecountry, scheduled for 3 October. The Liberal Democrats (LDS) ofincumbent Prime Minister Anton Rop and
the Democrats (SDS) ofopposition leader Janez Jansa are believed to win the most seats inparliament, the TV station POP-TV reported presenting a poll conductedby the Mediana agency on Thursday.
LJUBLJANA, Sept 2 (Hina) - Around 70 percent of Slovene voters will
take part in the fourth regular parliamentary elections in the country,
scheduled for 3 October. The Liberal Democrats (LDS) of incumbent Prime
Minister Anton Rop and the Democrats (SDS) of opposition leader Janez Jansa are
believed to win the most seats in parliament, the TV station POP-TV reported
presenting a poll conducted by the Mediana agency on Thursday. According to the poll, which covered 704 respondents, the LDS is
expected to win 23 percent of the vote and the SDS 18 percent. Another four
parties are expected to win parliamentary seats. Twelve percent of voters will
abstain from voting and 19 percent are still undecided.
Asked which candidate they would like to see elected prime minister,
18.3 percent supported Anton Rop, 14.1 percent opted for former parliament
president Borut Pahor, while 13.6 percent supported Janez Jansa. Former prime
minister Andrej Bajuk, who now leads the Nova Slovenija Christian-Democrat
party, was supported by 5.6 percent of the respondents.
