ZAGREB, Sept 1 (Hina) - The "Enough of Ideological Tyranny" citizens' group on Wednesday called on the Croatian government to rename Zagreb's Marshal Tito Square the Square of Victims of Communism and remove the monument to Tito in his home town of Kumrovec, stating that Tito was a tyrant, communist dictator and perpetrator of proven war crimes.

The group announced protest rallies in Zagreb's Marshal Tito Square and in towns with streets and squares bearing Tito's name.

"We are sending a message to the Croat people - it is not time for silence, it is time for action - let us stop ideological tyranny and build Croatia on unchangeable, universal moral principles, where everybody will enjoy equal rights - at least to know the truth about their suffering as well as to receive a just punishment for their crimes," one of the coordinators of the group, Vinko Kalinic, said at a news conference in Zagreb.

The group condemned what it called "the government's terrorist act of removing the monuments to Croatian writer Mile Budak and soldier Jure Francetic" and said it joined a recent appeal by Croatian intellectuals regarding Budak.

So far, the group has received support from about a dozen political parties and associations, some 200 Croatian intellectuals, writers, journalists and other public figures, and about 3,000 citizens from all over the country, representatives of the group said.
