CRVENKOVSKI WINS 48% OF VOTE IN MACEDONIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

SKOPLJE, April 15 (Hina) - According to preliminary, unofficial results of Wednesday's presidential elections in Macedonia, Branko Crvenkovski, the incumbent premier and candidate of the Social-Democratic Alliance, won some 48 percent of the vote, while Sasko Kedev, the candidate of VMRO-DPMNE, won around 40 percent of the vote.
SKOPLJE, April 15 (Hina) - According to preliminary, unofficial results of Wednesday's presidential elections in Macedonia, Branko Crvenkovski, the incumbent premier and candidate of the Social-Democratic Alliance, won some 48 percent of the vote, while Sasko Kedev, the candidate of VMRO-DPMNE, won around 40 percent of the vote.#L# The two candidates will continue the race in the second round, when the new Macedonian president will be elected. Although Crvenkovski won 50,000 votes more than Kedev, according to first reports Kedev has achieved great success as a relatively unknown candidate, securing legitimacy for the new leadership of his party. As regards ethnic Albanian candidates, Gzim Ostreni, the candidate of the Democratic Union for Integration, generally won more votes than the candidate of the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA), Zudi Djelili. DPA vice-president Menduh Taci said their candidate won in all bigger Albanian settlements. The state election commission reported last night that 54 percent of registered voters went to the polls.
