SURVEY: POPULARITY RATINGS OF HDZ, PRESIDENT MESIC DROP

ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - A survey conducted by the Promocija Plus agency at the beginning of April shows that the support of the electorate to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has decreased (by 0.4 percent), although the party still enjoys the strongest voter support. The ratings of the most popular politician - President Stjepan Mesic - have seen a drop as well (of 3.1 percent).
ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - A survey conducted by the Promocija Plus agency at the beginning of April shows that the support of the electorate to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has decreased (by 0.4 percent), although the party still enjoys the strongest voter support. The ratings of the most popular politician - President Stjepan Mesic - have seen a drop as well (of 3.1 percent).#L# The survey, which covered 1,300 respondents, shows that the number of voters who would support the HDZ in elections dropped from 32.9 percent to 31.5 percent over the last month. The first runner-up is the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which enjoys the support of 21.2 percent of voters, which is a 0.4 percent drop in relation to the month before. The SDP is followed by the Croatian People's Party (HNS) whose ratings improved from 8.5 to 9.9 percent. The party is followed by the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) with 7.5 percent support (an increase of 1 percent). The survey shows the recovery of the Peasant Party (HSS), whose voter support rose from 3.3 to 4.7 percent. Support for the Pensioners' Party (HSU) dropped from 3.8 to 2.7 percent, while support to the Democratic Centre (DC) rose from 0.8 to 1.2 percent. President Stjepan Mesic is still considered the most positive politician, who enjoys the support of 28.3 percent of respondents (last month's rating stood at 31.4 percent). Mesic is followed by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, with 27.4 percent support, and the SDP leader and former prime minister, Ivica Racan, with 9.7 percent. The list of the ten most popular politicians also includes HNS leaders Vesna Pusic and Radimir Cacic and HSP leaders Tonci Tadic and Anto Djapic, HSS president Zlatko Tomcic, and Slaven Letica, an independent parliamentary deputy from the HSP slate. The list of least liked politicians is headed by Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Andrija Hebrang, who was considered the most negative politician by 16.5 percent of voters in February and by 25.3 percent in April. Hebrang is followed by his party colleague, parliament speaker Vladimir Seks (15.3 percent), Ivica Racan (10.8 percent), Ivo Sanader (7.6 percent), Vesna Pusic (5.8 percent), Anto Djapic (5.4 percent), Ivic Pasalic (4.2 percent), Radimir Cacic (3.6 percent), Ljubo Cesic (2.9 percent) and Slavko Linic (2.7 percent). The government's policy is entirely supported by 15 percent of respondents, which is a drop of 3.5 percent in relation to the month before. The respondents consider PM Sanader the best member of the government (12.8 percent). Sanader is followed by Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor (12.2 percent) and Education Minister Dragan Primorac (11.7 percent). A total of 2.3 percent of respondents believe that all government members are successful while 14.8 percent consider them all unsuccessful. Andrija Hebrang is considered the worst member of the government (41.2 percent) and is followed by Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul (6.2 percent), Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic, Economy Minister Branko Vukelic and Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic.
