Addressing the reporters at the end of the stay in Paris, Mesic
emphasised out that Zagreb and Paris had identical points of view on
the current problems in Europe and in the world.
"I think that it is important to say that we have the identical
positions on the crisis in the Middle East as we believe that the
solution to that problem must be found through a political way," the
Croatian head of state said.
Speaking of the French backing to Croatia, Mesic said that credit
should go to French President Jacques Chirac for making it possible
that Zagreb hosted the EU summit in 2000, namely the event was held
outside the EU zone. Besides, the Zagreb summit helped promote the
assessment of individual achievements of each country as a criterion
for admission to the Union, Mesic added.
During his visit to Paris, Mesic held talks with French President
Chirac, the French National Assembly's president Jean Louis Debre, and
a former French president, Valery Giscard D'Estaing who is now the
chairman of the European Convention.
