PARIS, April 7 (Hina) - Croatia and France want to intensify their
parliamentary cooperation, the president of French national assembly,
Jean-Louis Debre, said on Wednesday after talks with Croatian
President Stjepan Mesic#L#
Debre, who attended the opening of an exhibition called "Renaissance
in Croatia", asked Mesic to convey the official invitation to Croatian
Parliament President Vladimir Seks to visit France.
Debre expressed satisfaction with the fact that he held talks with the
president of a country that wrote its Constitutions inspired by the
French model. Debre's father is the architect of France's Constitution
which served as a model for the Croatian Constitution.
This is why I want a closed cooperation between our two parliaments,
Debre said and added this was in the interest of the two countries and
Europe.
The Constitution was one of the topics of talks Mesic held on
Tuesday, the first day of his working visit to France, with former
President Valery Giscard D'Estaing who is now at the helm of the
European Convention.
D'Estaing drafted the future European Union Constitution and expressed
conviction that when Croatia joined the EU it would enter an already
reformed Europe.
