Parliament rejected an interpellation on the government's work on the
protocol initiated by the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), which claimed
the government entered negotiations with the European Union on the
increase of export quotas for agricultural products by breaching the
law, i.e. by excluding parliament.
HSS leader Zlatko Tomcic insisted the government must negotiate about
the protocol with parliament's permission.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader replied the government would complete the
negotiations and then send the protocol to parliament for
ratification.
He reiterated Croatia's negotiators would not agree to an increase of
import quotas, and that the EU's enlargement to 10 new countries would
offer the possibility of a limitless duty-free export of nearly every
agricultural product.
Parliament today concluded its two-week fifth session.
