BELGRADE, March 30 (Hina) - The US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Marc Grossman, said in Belgrade on Tuesday that his interlocutors in Pristina and Belgrade conveyed to him their commitment to a multiethnic and democratic society in Kosovo although there was not agreement on every detail during the talks.#L# He said he had come to the region to relay the US Administration's strong message that the recent violence in Kosovo was unacceptable and that it must not recur. Regarding 31 March, the time term when the US State Secretary should inform Congress whether Serbia did or did not meet conditions for the continuation of US financial assistance, Grossman said that in case Colin Powell did not make his decision on Wednesday it would not mean that an approval of the continuation of the aid was not possible later on. Grossman said that he had been assured by officials in Belgrade that they would like to meet their obligation to cooperate with the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal. On Monday, the US representative visited Pristina. Today in Belgrade he held talks with officials of Serbia and Serbia-Montenegro. After the talks the Serbian government issued a statement saying that his hosts told Grossman that "since 17 March nothing in Kosovo has been as it used to be, and the concept of a multiethnic Kosovo has turned into an illusion".
