SUBOTICA, March 29 (Hina) - The chairman of the Croatian National Council in Serbia and Montenegro said on Monday that the toppling of crosses at a Catholic cemetery in northern town of Subotica at the weekend was "somebody's message
that Croats were not wanted in Vojvodina."

"We can see that such things are also happening to other minorities,
so we fear that someone in Vojvodina wants to impose intolerance and
destroy everything that has taken long to make through coexistence and
mutual respect," Josip Ivanovic said.
Ivanovic was responding to the news of the toppling of more than 90
wooden crosses and stone vases at Subotica's oldest Catholic cemetery
where mostly ethnic Croats are buried. The cemetery was desecrated on
the night between Friday and Saturday last week.
The police said on Monday a search for the perpetrators was under
way.
