The alliance is to deploy additional 2,000 soldiers as the
reinforcements to the present peace-keepers in the area following the
unrest earlier this week.
The police of UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and KFOR described the
situation in Kosovo on Saturday as stable and calm. No incident was
registered on Friday night and on Saturday.
UN reported that the upshot of the recent violence was the
displacement of at least 3,600 Serbs and other non-Abanians (Roma and
Askalia).
In seven Serb villages, many houses and 16 Orthodox churches and
monasteries were set on fire.
An official of UNMIK in charge of return of the displaced and
refugees, Peggy Hick, said that of the above-mentioned number of the
displaced, 1,100 found shelter in KFOR bases, while others fled to
Serb-controlled areas where there was no violence.
She described this as a serious humanitarian situation.
