CROATIAN PRESIDENT VISITS SYRIA

ZAGREB/DAMASCUS, March 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who is at the helm of a delegation comprising leading Croatian businessmen, visited Syria on Friday and held talks with President Bashar al-Assad.
ja ZAGREB/DAMASCUS, March 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who is at the helm of a delegation comprising leading Croatian businessmen, visited Syria on Friday and held talks with President Bashar al-Assad.#L# In Damascus, Mesic opened Croatia's honorary consulate and took part in the Syria-Croatia business forum. The talks with Syria's president focused on the need for advancing the two countries' economic cooperation. The two presidents expressed satisfaction with the participation of large Croatian companies in oil and gas research projects. The talks also focused on the possibility of cooperation in shipbuilding industry, the participation of Croatian companies in construction projects as well as on the participation of Croatia's manufacturing industry in Syria. At the Syria-Croatia forum, the president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Nadan Vidosevic, and the president of the Trade Chamber of Damascus, Ratib Shalla, signed a cooperation agreement. Mesic hailed the institutionalisation of the cooperation between the two chambers. The forum also focused on a possibility for the development of tourism, aviation and agriculture. President Mesic also met representatives of Croatian oil and gas companies INA and CROSCO who are working on research projects in Syria. The Croatian head of state will end his tour of the Arab countries with a visit to Jordan on Saturday and Sunday. He arrived in Syria from Qatar. (Hina) it
