the assistance of the Swiss government, which has reconstructed an
apartment building in Gradac in the southern municipality of Ruzic

Swiss Ambassador Marcus Kaiser today handed the families the keys to
their new apartments.
By rebuilding the housing unit in Gradac, the Swiss government has
completed its programme of reconstruction in Croatia, which was
launched in March 2000 under the name "Crossborder Return".
The purpose of the programme was to assist in the establishment of
coexistence and the return of families to their rebuilt homes, Kaiser
said.
In the past four years, Switzerland reconstructed more than 325
housing units, thus ensuring permanent accommodation for both Croat
refugees and Serb returnees as well as Bosnian Croat refugees who
settled in Croatia.
The Swiss agency rebuilt 148 houses for Serb returnees, built 146
houses for Bosnian Croat families and provided permanent accommodation
for 28 families from refugee centres, which cost more than six million
Swiss francs, Kaiser said.
He added that his country had invested almost the same amount into the
reconstruction of infrastructure facilities in Croatia through the
same agency.
Close to four million francs was provided for the reconstruction of
main infrastructure facilities in the area of Knin alone. The Swiss
Humanitarian Aid agency is also participating in a project promoting
the economy in Golubic.
The Swiss government is also assisting families from refugee centres
who have decided to return to Croatia by repairing their homes with
the help of the Croatian government, which provides construction
material, the ambassador said.
