"We have no power whatsoever to interfere with the work of the HRT's
Programmes Council, nor is anyone thinking about doing such a thing,"
Kosor told Croatian Television (HTV) commenting on claims by some
politicians and reporters that changes to the law sponsored by the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) would enable one party to influence
the appointment of the Programmes Council as well as of the HRT's
director and editor-in-chief.
Parliament President Vladimir Seks said in an interview with
Saturday's issue of Jutarnji List daily that the purpose of amendments
to the HRT Law was to make that electronic medium an impartial public
service and that the HDZ was not making any secret plans to control
the television.
Asked to comment on concerns that the law was being amended only so
that the HDZ could appoint "its own" director and editor-in-chief,
Seks said, among other things: "Objectively, such a transmission is no
longer possible".
