ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) Programmes
Council on Tuesday invited applications for the post of HRT general
manager and defined the procedure for the election of the HRT's
management.#L#
According to the relevant legislation, upon completed public selection
procedure, the Programmes Council appoints the HRT's general manager,
the managers of Radio, Television and Music Production departments,
programme heads, and editors-in-chief of radio and television news
programmes.
After the general manager is appointed, the Council invites
applications for the appointment of managers of the HRT's three
departments, and once they are appointed, it will invite applications
for the posts of editor-in-chief of radio and television news
programmes.
The Council will elect the HRT's general manager by secret ballot,
after it interviews all candidates who meet the set criteria. The
general manager must win at least eight out of 11 votes. If he/she
fails to win the required number of votes, the election procedure is
repeated, as it is in case the two last candidates win the same number
of votes.
A similar procedure will be applied in the election of managers of
Radio, Television and Music Production departments, the difference
being that nominations after interviews will be submitted by the
general manager. To be appointed the manger of one of the departments
requires at least six votes of the Programmes Council, which cannot
vote on the candidate who has not been nominated by the general
manager.
After the managers of Radio and Television departments submit
nominations, the Council takes a vote on Radio and Television
directors (former editors-in-chief) and editors-in-chief of radio and
television news programmes. A candidate must win a two-thirds majority
to be appointed a Radio or Television director .
The new Programme Council today discussed for the first time TV
programmes, with most objections being directed at entertainment
programmes.
