ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MINISTER MEETS UNDP REPRESENTATIVE

ZAGREB, Feb 6 (Hina) - Croatia's Minister of Environmental Protection, Zoning and Construction, Marina Matulovic Dropulic, on Friday held talks with the permanent representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) to Croatia, Cornelius Klein, to discuss projects the ministry is implementing in cooperation with the UNDP.
ZAGREB, Feb 6 (Hina) - Croatia's Minister of Environmental Protection, Zoning and Construction, Marina Matulovic Dropulic, on Friday held talks with the permanent representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) to Croatia, Cornelius Klein, to discuss projects the ministry is implementing in cooperation with the UNDP.#L# Environmental protection is very important to Croatia and one of the priorities of the ministry is the removal of problems concerning waste management, the minister said. The ministry and the UNDP are cooperating on several projects, which are financed jointly by the Global Environment Fund and the Croatian government. The projects refer to the preservation of bio diversity through integral management of the coastal area, the removal of obstacles to energy efficiency in the services sector and households, climate, and the inventorying of greenhouse gases. The UNDP conducted the drawing up of national sustainable development strategies in several European transition countries, within the Capacity 21 project. Croatia is expected to draw up its own sustainable development strategy by 2005, a process in which the UNDP can offer advisory assistance, the ministry said in a statement. (Hina) rml
