HEBRANG SAYS GOTOVINA SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS OFFERED BY TRIBUNAL

SPLIT, Feb 3 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister Andrija Hebrang said on Tuesday that the Chief Prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Carla del Ponte, had given fugitive Croatian Army general Ante Gotovina the most favourable conditions yet when she offered him to be provisionally released pending trial if he surrendered voluntarily.
SPLIT, Feb 3 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister Andrija Hebrang said on Tuesday that the Chief Prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Carla del Ponte, had given fugitive Croatian Army general Ante Gotovina the most favourable conditions yet when she offered him to be provisionally released pending trial if he surrendered voluntarily.#L# "Now it's up to Ante Gotovina to make a move. His appearance before the tribunal will relieve him of a great burden and will help Croatia get rid of a big problem," Hebrang told reporters during a break in a government session in the southern city of Split. Hebrang said the government could guarantee Gotovina professional, moral and financial support in his defence before the Hague tribunal. Asked to comment on his being in the public limelight as of late, Hebrang said that was the result of his efforts as Health Minister to restore order to the finance system of the health service.
